Welcome to the picturesque market town of Wimborne Minster! The town, locally referred to as Wimborne, is situated at the meeting point (confluence) of the Rivers Stour and Allen. Architecturally Wimborne is one of Dorset's county treasures with a pristine collection of 15th, 16th and 17th century buildings - of which the preservation has been sympathetic and consistent. One of the town's more eccentric buildings is the Tivoli Theatre, which is a 1930's art deco cinema and theatre - a must see! The Wimborne Minster, known locally as the Minster, is the parish church of the town and is renowned for its chained library - one of only four left in the world! A chained library speaks for itself, literally the books are attached to the bookshelf by a chain long enough for the book to be taken away and read, but not removed from the library. Very clever! The Minster is also home to an astronomical clock - showing the relative positions of the sun, moon, zodiacal constellations and even, sometimes, the major planets. It is one of a small group to be found in the west of England. All in the Wimorne Minster is well worth a visit!

One of Wimborne's most famous attractions is the Wimborne Model Town, which is actually one of the largest in England. A fascinating and wholly accurate depiction of Wimborne as it was in the 1950s. It also features a model railway based on Thomas the Tank Engine - Good fun fun for the kids with quizzes to complete and more! Weekends and national holidays sees the town crier in the main square and round the Minister - always an entertaining moment! Other local events include the fireworks display, part of its Guy Fawkes celebrations, which is surprisingly the longest fireworks display in Dorset - All proceeds are donated to local schools. The well-established Wimborne Market is held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday sees a large covered Flea and Farmers Market, selling organic and local produce - Saturday sees the largest car boot and flea market in the south! AND Sunday sees a vast covered general market and flea market with over 500 stalls to choose from! A fantastic amenity to have on your doorstep!
