Moving to Thornbury ?

Thornbury is a small market town located in the beautiful unitary district of South Gloucestershire in the beautiful south west of England. The town, and its surrounding area, is richly steeped in ancient history making it a wonderful and fascinating place to explore. The earliest recorded history of the site of Thornbury was in 896 - when it was then known as 'Thornbyrig'. In 1510 a grand castle was designed and partially constructed for the third Duke of Buckingham. It wasn't completed as Edward Stafford was executed for treason in 1521 under the ruling of King Henry VIII. The King briefly occupied the building with his wife, Anne Boleyn. It is now a luxury hotel and a popular venue for weddings. The castle is surrounded by 15 acres of stunning grounds, including a 500 year-old vineyard and a walled Tudor garden. It is well worth a visit! That is not all that Thornbury has to offer in terms of interesting places - There are many more! A fun fact about the town - the shop front of the Wildings clothing shop was used in a Two Ronnies sketch - and an episode of the TV series, Casualty, was filmed at The Castle School.

Thornbury is a bustling town with many attractive features and a thriving community spirit. It hosts some popular events enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. In 2011 it was awarded a gold medal in the National Britain in Bloom competition - It also hosts its own similar competition 'Thornbury in Bloom' - where the whole community gets involved and produces some spectacular garden displays. A fabulous time to visit the town!

South Gloucestershire is home to some national treasures - including one end of the Severn Bridge. The river Severn has the second highest tidal range in the world! It is also fabulous hiking country with many places to visit and enjoy along the route. Some great pubs, too!
