Moving to Euston?
The area referred to as Euston is defined by an chunk of Central London
between Paddington and Islington (the A501 road connects both) It’s an important
thoroughfare since around 1756 and could be described as London’s first bypass.
Being very central, and officially part of the London Borough of Camden,
Euston Road is littered with London Underground Stations, most notably at
Euston ( the seventh busiest railway station in London)itself, Euston Square,
Regents Park and Warren Street. As a result of all the underground lines
available, access to most parts of London is easy from here and with the close
proximity of Kings Cross St Pancras, access to the country and the continent
nowadays too. Similarly, being such a major road, London bus routes are readily
available.
The area around where Euston road joins Tottenham court road was extensively
bomb-damaged during World War 2 and in the 1960’s this junction was the subject
of a significant renovation plan including buildings such as the Euston Tower
(the home of Capital Radio) and also buildings which act as the home for
Thames Television.
Euston’s proximity to the shopping havens of Oxford Street and Regent Street
means that while there are shops around, you’d be much better served by
jumping on a tube and you’ll be there in five minutes. The same, but to a
lesser extent applies to bars and restaurants, though there are one or two
worth paying a visit to near Euston Station. Mai Sushi, a Japanese venue on
Chalton Street is apparently very authentic and Number 12 a more traditionally
British haunt on Upper Woburn place attracts good comments and reviews.
Euston is also handily located close to some interesting visitor
attractions, the British Library being the best example. It’s book and journal
collection being second in the world to only the Library of Congress in
Washington DC.
Charles Dickens gave readings of his work, notably Pickwick Papers and A
Christmas Carol at the hospital for women on Euston Road
