Moving to Hounslow?

The London Borough of Hounslow, is a borough located around ten miles to the west of Central London comprised of several major residential areas; Chiswick, Brentford and Hounslow itself being some of the larger and better known. The Borough is serviced by two branches of London Underground in the form of the District Line and Piccadilly lines. There are several stations available throughout the area including three in Hounslow itself, Stamford Brook and Turnham Green being two of several others. By road the Borough could not be better connected given its proximity to the A4, M4 and both the North and South Circular roads. Access to Heathrow airport further west is not surprisingly rather easy by both road and rail. The Borough also has no less than 47 bus routes.

The town of Hounslow itself dates back to around the 13th Century but it only really began to flourish when the Great Western Road was built to by- pass the town, bringing with it a large amount of industrial prosperity most of it connected with transport. These older industries, once strung along what became referred to as The Golden Mile started to decline in the 1970’s, giving way to commercialisation and the relocation of large companies to the surrounding area.

In the late 1980’s and early 90’s some development of Hounslow town centre took place in order to keep up with the area’s increasing population, likely triggered by a realisation that it is in fact an excellent commuter location. Hounslow town centre is focused largely around its pedestrianised shopping area and the Treaty Centre mall which hosts many shops, restaurants and cafes as well as the local library. Further development is also now underway which include an Asda supermarket, a large cinema and blocks of new apartments on the site of what was once the local main Post Office. The facilities in Hounslow itself then are fairly well contained however, as mentioned earlier there are other towns within the Borough offering shopping facilities if needed.

For eating there is a wide multi-cultural variety in the area so you’re spoiled for choice , but to narrow it down try the Karahi Express in Hounslow West, a popular and busy (always a good sign) Indian haunt. A little further away in Chiswick, try Crepe Parisienne, a chilled out and highly recommended eatery, serving authentic French food as the name would suggest.

Famous people from Hounslow include actress Patsy Kensit and Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan among several others
